Step 1 – Go to the Virginia Secretary of State.
Step 2 – You may either lookup a corporation by name or if you are incorporating, you may want to check to see if a name is available. When searching by name, you want to make sure that you use as many keywords as possible to narrow down the results. If you make a broad search, chances are you will be sorting through hundreds of matching listings.
Step 3 – When on the listings page, you will be given a preview of the results showing the entity’s: SCC ID Number, Name, Type, and the Status. Click on either of the blue text links (under the ID Number or the Name) to see all the information about your corporation listed with the Secretary of State.
Step 4 – The Entity Data Page allows you to see general information such as the business’s SCC ID#, State of Incorporation, Date of Incorporating, Status, Shares Authorized, Principal Office Address, and Registered Agent Information.
On the right side, you have options that will allow you to see more information such as viewing previous filings. If you are an owner or representative of the entity you may file an annual report or order certified copies of documents.
