Lookup an Entity at the South Carolina Secretary of State Business Database by: Corporation, Limited Liability Company (LLC), and Limited Partnership. Search by Name or Registered Agent and this tool may also be used when selecting a corporate name when incorporating.
Step 2 – You have the option of either searching by Business Name or by Registered Agent. When typing in the name of the corporation, you want to make sure that you are as descriptive as possible to return the least amount of results.
Step 3 – You will be brought to a results page that will show all the entities that matched your keywords entered. When you have found the corporation you were looking for click on the light blue link text and you will be brought to the Entity Data Page.
Step 4 – You are now able to view all the information on file with the Secretary of State about the corporation including if it’s: Domestic/Foreign, Status, State of Incorporation, Profit/Non-Profit, Registered Agent Name, Registered Agent Address, File Date, Effective Date, and all previous filings that you may see scanned images.
Reserve a Corporate Name
Pursuant to Section 33-4-102 (a) of the 1976 South Carolina Code of Laws an applicant may reserve an entity name for use for a period of one hundred and twenty days (120) by following the steps below: Step 1 – Download and complete the Application.
Step 2 – Attach the $10 filing fee and send to:

Step 2 – Type in either the name of the LLC you are looking for or the registered agent. If doing a search by company name be sure to use as many terms as possible in order to lower the amount of results. If you do use only broad search terms, chances are the system will return hundreds of entities that you will have to sort through.
Step 3 – You will now see all the results that match the terms entered from the Secretary of State. Sort through the listings and once you have found your Limited Liability Company click on the clue text link (Name) and you will be brought to it’s data page.
Step 3 – You have now made it to the Entity Information Page that shows all the information located at the Secretary of State’s office about the LLC including it’s: Domestic/Foreign, Status, State of Organization, Registered Agent Name, Registered Agent Address, Filing Date, Effective Date, Dissolved Date, and the Company’s Filing History.
