Step 1 – Go to the North Carolina Secretary of State.

You have 2 options to search for a corporation:
By Name – The most popular. You will need to type in as many matching terms for the entity you are looking for in order to narrow down the results as much as possible. The database will query and return all matching terms, so if your keywords are broad, chances are you will be sorting through hundreds of listings.
By Registered Agent – Just type in the name.

Step 2 – After preforming your search, you will be able to see a list of your results by entity: name, type, status (with the Secretary of State), incorporation date, and if you are the owner the option to file an online report/see previous documents filed.
Click on the Name that best matches your intended query

Step 3 – You have reached the completion and may view your corporation’s: Secretary of State ID Number, Status, Effective Date, Domestic or Foreign, State of Incorporation, Duration, Annual Report Status, Registered Agent Name, Registered Agent Address, Principal Office Address, Officers, Type of Stock, and the option to view all previous filings.

Reserve a Corporate Name
In North Carolina, an applicant may reserve an entity name for their use and have it saved on file for ten (10) years. Follow the steps below:

Step 1 – Download and complete the name reservation application:
Domestic – For all businesses located in North Carolina.
Foreign – For all businesses located outside the State.
