Search the New York Secretary of State Business Entity Database by typing in the name of a Corporation, Limited Liability Company (LLC), Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), or Limited Partnership (LP). Use this as a Name Availability Tool when Incorporating.
Step 1 – Go to the New York Secretary of State.
Step 2 – Type in the name of the corporation that you are looking for. Be sure to add as many terms as possible as the database will return all the entities that contain your keywords. After making your selection hit the button titled ‘Search Database‘ or press enter on your keyboard.
Step 3 – A new window will open with a list of the all the businesses that matched your terms. Scroll down and click on the corporation name.
Step 4 – You have completed your search. Now you are able to see all the information about the entity listed with the Secretary of State. You are able to view the corporation’s: ID Number, Incorporation Date, County, State of Jurisdiction, Status, Officers, Registered Agent, and Fictitious Names.
Reserve a Corporate Name
Under the Statute 303 of the New York Business Corporation Law, an applicant may file and reserve a business name by following the steps below:
Step 1 – Download and fill in the Application.
Step 2 – Enclose the $20 filing fee and send to:
