Maine Secretary of State Corporation Entity Search

Step 1 – Go to the Maine Secretary of State.

Step 2 – You are able to search for a corporation by name or charter number. If searching by name you want to include as many terms as you can as the database will pull all entities that include the terms you entered. Click on the button below to be brought to the results page.

Step 3 – As you view your results you will be given a preview of the entity name, type, and the option to click on the link titled ‘Information Summary’. Once you have found the corporation you were looking up, click on the ‘Information Summary’ button.

Step 4 – You have concluded your search and are now able to view all information provided by the Secretary of State about your corporation search including: status, filing date, expiration date, jurisdiction, fictitious names, registered agent, and all previous filings.

Create a Corporation in Maine

Step 1 – Download one of the Articles of Incorporation forms below:
Domestic Profit – $145 – For most applicants who have a place of business in Maine and would like to open a business.
Domestic Non-Profit – $40
Religious Organization
Foreign – $250 – For corporations located outside the State to be able to do business in Maine.

Step 2 – Enclose the filing fee (made payable to the Maine Secretary of State) and send to:

Step 3 – After receiving the completed corporation in the mail, you will required to obtain an Employer Identification Number if you are seeking to open a bank account in the name of your entity.

Step 1 – Download and complete the Application for Reservation of Name.

Step 2 – Attach the fee of $20 and send to:
