Step 1 – Go to the Illinois Secretary of State.
Step 2 – As you can see in the image above, you can search the CyberDrive system by name, keyword, partial word, or by filing number. Type in as many keywords as you can to provide you with the best results possible as the database will pull all companies that contain the terms entered. For our example, we will be typing in ‘illinois’.
Step 3 – Seeing as our term was extremely broad we ended up with thousands of results. In the results list the Secretary of State gives us a preview of the entity name and file number. Scroll down and select the LLC you were looking for and for our example we will be clicking on the top result.
Step 4 – Now you are able to view all the details of the company on file with the Secretary of State including: Status, File Date, Registered Agent Name, Registered Agent Address, Annual Report Filing Date, Type of LLC, State of Formation, Management Type, Duration, and if it is a Series.
How to Create an Illinois Limited Liability Company
Step 1 – Download or fill out online the Articles of Organization.

Domestic – Most Popular – Allows an applicant to create a company if there is a principal place of business in Illinois.
Domestic Series – A Series allows for a company to have one entity registered with the Secretary of State, but may have separate divisions that offer legal protection so that one asset (such as real estate) may not legally expose another.
Foreign – Allows a company that exists outside of Illinois and is able to conduct business transactions after successful incorporation.
Step 2 – If filing online, pay the required filing fee ($600 for standard, $850 for series) at the end of the session.
If you are doing a paper filing, enclose a check for $500 for standard, and $750 for a series to be payable to the Illinois Secretary of State and mailed to:
