Georgia Secretary of State Corporation Search

Step 1 – Go to the Georgia Secretary of State.

Step 2 – At first it may look like at first that you have to create an account, but if you just Scroll Down you will see the search bar. There are a couple of options such as searching by Entity Name (most popular), Control Number, Document Tracking Number, and Registered Agent Name (RA Name).

Type in your desired search and click on the search button. Be as descriptive as possible as the database will return all the results containing your keywords unless you choose one of the options on the right hand side (contains, exact match, starts with).

Step 3 – For our sample search we have used the keyword ‘georgia’ which gave us over 250 results. From here you will have to scroll down again and see what the system returned. When previewing your results, the Secretary of State lets you see the corporation’s: Effective Date, Control Number, Effective Date, Status, Type of Entity, and whether it is a profit or non profit entity.

Step 4 – You are now on the Corporation Entity Page. This shows all the data that is on file with the Secretary of State including but not limited to: Principal Office Address, Registered Agent Information, Previous Filings, and all ownership information.

How to Create a Corporation in Georgia

Step 1 – File one of the Articles of Incorporation below:

Domestic – File Online – For corporations where the principal office will exist in Georgia.
Foreign Corporations – Download – For a corporation located outside of Georgia that wishes to do business in the State. Only a paper filing is available.

Step 2 – When filing a domestic corporation, the filing fee will be paid at the end of the session of $100.
If filing a foreign corporation, a check payable to the Secretary of State must be made for $225. Send the document with the enclosed check to: CORPORATIONS DIVISION, 237 Coliseum Drive, Macon, Georgia 31217.

You will receive your official corporation back in the mail within 10 to 14 business days.

Step 3 – If you are planning to open a bank account after successful formation you will need to apply for an EIN. This registers your corporation with the Internal Revenue Service which is required by all US banks.

Reserve a Corporation Name in Georgia

Step 1 – Download and fill out the Georgia Corporation Name Reservation.

Step 2 – Attach a check for $25 and send the completed form and filing fee to:
