Step 1 – Go to the Colorado Secretary of State.
Step 2 – Now you are able to search for an LLC by name. Type in the keywords and be sure to type as much as you can as to get the best result. The Secretary of State’s database will lookup every LLC matching the keywords that you typed.
For our sample, we are going to type in the keyword ‘subway’.
Step 3 – As you can see our searched turned up 395 matching entities with the name ‘subway’ in it. When doing your search, if you received this many results you may want to add a few more keywords to narrow down the results.
To show what an entity card looks like for an LLC we are going to click on the 5th result.
Step 4 – Now you can see all the information listed with the Secretary of State about the specific LLC. This is public information and can be used for personal or business purposes.
Create an LLC in Colorado
Step 1 – Fill in the Articles of Organization online with the Secretary of State here.
Step 2 – At the end of the session you will be instructed to pay the $50 filing fee. Your official LLC will be mailed to you within 7 to 10 business days.
*If you will be setting up a bank account with your LLC after formation you will need to get a EIN (Tax ID) number from the IRS. Apply Online and it only takes 10 minutes. You will receive your number immediately after completion.
Reserve an LLC Name in Colorado
Step 1 – The Colorado name reservation form is now available to fill out online.
Step 2 – At the end of the form you will be asked to pay the required filing fee depending on your LLC type. The Secretary of State will then send you the name reservation certificate via standard mail.
